Magnetic Island 1981

Magnetic Island was a beautiful place but having to catch the ferry every day to Townsville where I was working became a bit of a bother and when even Shirley suggested we ought to look for a place on the mainland, I promptly bought a tiny but very cosy cottage at # 3 Bay Street, Cape Pallarenda. I did it all inside one lunch-hour and the house turned out to be a real home - our very first real home! - where we felt very comfortable. Don't even ask me why we ever left again! It came about because of one short phone call asking me to go back to Papua New Guinea to set up the administrative and accounting functions for the tup-and-barge operation up the Fly River for the Ok Tedi Mine. Was I going to regret my impulsive decision? You bet!
